Pulmonary Rehab Week – Patient Story
Joyce F. started in the Pulmonary Rehab program back in 2020. She attended regularly, met her goals,
and graduated the program. She later enrolled the Cardiac Rehab program and graduated from that
program as well. Joyce decided to she wanted to continue to attending at the Kankakee
Cardiopulmonary Rehab location so she can continue to improve and reach new goals. She returned to
the program at the beginning of February of this year. Her goal was to be able to walk 1 mile within 1
month of returning. Joyce was able to complete that goal and was so happy that she cried tears of joy.
She asked the staff to take her picture so she could send it to her kids. Her kids were so happy for her as
well, that they posted it on social media. The Cardiopulmonary Rehab staff is also happy for Joyce and
what she has been able to accomplish with our programs. WAY TO GO JOYCE!!
Behavioral Medicine’s fun in February
Behavioral Medicine had fun in February! We were a part of the Kankakee School District’s Black Experience for Black History Month.
February is also Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month. Riverside Behavioral Medicine, Harbor House, Merchant St. Art Gallery of Artists with Autism, and Spizzirri’s Reptile Rescue and Rehabilitation partnered to have an evening of fun. Participants were able to paint live reptiles while enjoying hot cocoa and cookies!
We ended the month with a Police and Fire Appreciation Celebration sponsored by Kankakee United and Riverside Behavioral Medicine.
Chime Time
Thanks to the Foundation Pathways found time to Chime for the holidays! A few of Pathways’ staff played the chimes for their outpatient groups during the holidays. They also taught their child/adolescent groups how to use the chimes. Kirt, Pathways’ educator, says the next stop will be Senior Living! Cancer Institute Gingerbread House Winners
The votes are in! Congratulations to the winning gingerbread houses from the Riverside Cancer Institute’s contest!
Team members at the Cancer Institute decorated gingerbread houses, and patients and members of the public could vote in person or on Facebook for their favorite house.
