    Samaritans of the Year Announcement

Each year I work with the leadership of our Foundation to identify a special person or couple for the Samaritan of the Year Award. Begun in 1974, this annual tradition has honored those who have given generously and significantly over time to the mission of Riverside. In recent years,
that list includes longtime board members Harry and Jaymie Simmon (2019) and Riverside physician, Dr. Stonewall McCuiston (2018).

This year we considered how the Samaritan Award might place an important light on your extraordinary service these last few months. Therefore, I am proud to announce, that the 2020 Samaritans of the Year are: You, the Employees of Riverside Healthcare.

Congratulations! While our typical announcement of the award occurs during the Samaritan Dinner, we have instead developed a video to capture some of the extraordinary ways you have gone above and beyond this year to serve our patients and each other. In addition, you can look
for recognition in the Daily Journal this weekend.

Please take a few minutes to watch the combined State of Riverside/ Samaritan of the Year video in Ollie by searching “townhall”. Soon it will be available on our website as well, for you to share with others.

Please know the deep appreciation of our board of directors, the senior leadership team, and myself.

Phillip M. Kambic, President & CEO

Nurse to Nurse: Focusing on the Good

I am sure that you will agree that 2020 has been one of the most challenging and difficult years in our lifetime.

Riverside Nurses, like many nurses across the globe, have been on the front lines caring for patients without fail or fear in the face of the ongoing pandemic. During the hardships, staff have continued to forge ahead and keep the focus on living our mission of providing our kindest touch and strongest commitment to excellence! We have not overcome Covid-19, but there is a glimmer of hope that we will be able to ease the damaging effects of this virus in the near future. I encourage you all to remain hopeful, prayerful, and vigilant in slowing the spread through practicing the recommended safety measures.

We have entered the holiday season and I want to express my sincere gratitude for the resilience, teamwork, and compassion our nursing team continues to exhibit through these challenging times. It’s during these moments that I find myself focusing my energy on finding the good in every situation. There are many good things happening here at Riverside. There are nurses who are grateful for their Riverside family, and who have banded together during these last several weeks to lift each other up and persevere through trying times. Our teamwork shows us that we are stronger when we are together.

During recent leader rounds nurses on the COVID Unit shared what they are grateful for:

Kate D. 5E RN- “I am thankful for how strong our team is.”

Cassaundra F. 5E RN- “I am thankful for coffee-it gets us through.”

Melissa B. 5E RN- “Things are great overall. Our team is working under tough conditions, and they are pulling together and supporting each other, which makes things better.”

Tara K. – “I am thankful for my salvation, my family, and my faith.”

Many staff expressed sincere gratitude for the overwhelming support the Inpatient Tower has received from the Manpower Pool support staff. The Riverside Family has really exemplified the “One Riverside” mantra.

All of the staff throughout the inpatient nursing tower have shared that they are thankful for the new Massimo® vital signs machine that have EMR integration. This new technology enhances our care by providing the following:

    • Replaces current NIBP machines past support life cycle
    • Improves work efficiencies
      • Helps eliminate manual transcript errors
      • Easy positive patient identification
      • Designed for easy maintenance

    Riverside Manpower Pool is Open

COVID-19 continues to spread quickly in our area and we need your help!

Riverside’s Manpower Pool is now open to help us train and re-deploy staff to help care for our patients and yes, to work extra to live our mission of caring to our community–and to support our team. You do not have to be clinical staff to help….we’ll work to find a spot for you!

Current needs we are aware of include:

    • Nurses
    • C.N.As.
    • Patient care sitters
    • VRM sitters
    • We also are in immediate need of a sitter for an Assisted Living resident

Any help is welcomed–although you may be stepping outside of your comfort zone. The  Manpower Pool will get you trained or scheduled for a shift. Some training is completely online; some of you may not need any training based upon your experience. Your safety is of the utmost importance in scheduling you for redeployment.

To get trained or scheduled for a shift, please email Manpowerpool@rhc.net and provide a callback number, or call extension 22702 or 815-935-3276 (Riverside’s ODL Department).

If you do not currently work in an inpatient area, training for Nurse/C.N.A. staff being redeployed is available below. The FULL class assumes you have never worked in the inpatient area. The refresher course is for staff who were trained during the COVID Spring surge and want a refresher. The course covers skills and Epic documentation for the inpatient setting.

Sitter and VRM Sitter training are online via OLIE. Time to attend any training is expensed to the Manpower Pool.

Our organization is providing, like so many across the country, additional incentives listed below to encourage you to pick up extra shifts above your FTE to respond to care for our patients. The incentives below are for our hourly staff and are in place for 11/1/2020 to 1/31/2021. Note: Stipends for salaried staff picking up shifts above his/her FTE are also available but not displayed in this email!  Contact the Manpower Pool—we have needs and will work to find a spot where you can help—safely!

THANK YOU for your commitment to our coworkers and our patients!
