During the graduation ceremony, we also recognized 2 of our Program Directors, for their dedication and time devoted to GME.

Dr. Naresh Chandan has served as the Program Director of Internal Medicine since the beginning of GME’s journey, over 16 years ago.  In addition to serving as Program Director, he has been an educator, mentor and father figure to his residents.  He is transitioning from Program Director to Associate Program Director of the Resident Clinic effective July 1, 2024.   He will continue to be active in the education of the Internal Medicine residents.

Dr. Mary Belford has served as Program Director of Psychiatry since the program’s initial journey in 2016.   She is admired as a natural leader and has often stepped in to assist with GME leadership responsibilities including those outside her own program in support of all trainees.  After 30 years of practicing in the community and serving in medical staff leadership positions, she is leaving Riverside to join a Psychiatry practice closer to her home.

New Leadership:

Dr. Keyur Shah has assumed the role of Program Director of Internal Medicine effective July 1, 2024.  He has been teaching in residency programs for over 20 years member and he is the co-founder of the AIM Hospitalists group that provides the teaching and supervision of inpatient medicine months.  He has served on GMEC, is well respected by the residents and enjoys providing numerous teaching opportunities to residents and students.

Dr. Raunak Khisty has taken over the position of Program Director effective July 1, 2024, transitioning from Associate Program Director. He has been active in all aspects of the program’s leadership and will continue to grow and develop the program.  He has welcomed hundreds of medical students on inpatient rotations with him and other Psychiatry faculty members and the rotations have received glowing remarks.

Riverside’s GME program is excited to move forward in such good hands.  Residents and students will continue to grow medically and professionally in these programs as part of their life-long educational journey.
